Divi 5 Public Alpha 14: Release Notes & Progress Updates

The Divi 5 Public Alpha is available for use on new websites. If you use Divi 5, you’ll notice an update notification for Public Alpha Version 14. We release new Divi 5 versions every two weeks, and it gets better each time. If you haven’t tested Divi 5 yet, try it and let us know what you think.

What’s New In Public Alpha 14?

We implemented 37 bug fixes and improvements, one new feature (Module Groups), and made significant progress on four upcoming features.

Bug Fixes & Improvements

This version includes a handful of minor fixes and improvements. We are tracking every bug reported and tackling them one by one. In total, we merged 37 bug fixes and improvements. I listed every change in the changelog below.

Feature Progress

We’re moving full speed ahead with feature development. We have seven teams working full-time on Divi 5. Here is what they’re up to. 👇

1. Team One: This team fixes bugs and assists Divi Marketplace creators with module conversion. Divi Pixel announced that 30 modules have been converted to Divi 5 and are ready for testing. That’s great!
2. Team Two: This team is working on Woo modules, the final feature for Divi 5 to enter beta. They’re close to finishing their first batch, covering all product modules.
3. Team Three: This team is improving backward compatibility with Divi 4 modules in preparation for the Divi 5 beta.
4. Team Four: This team is working on a new Flexbox layout system for Divi. They’re making significant progress; it won’t be long now.
5. Team Five: This team is working on Relative Colors. They’re 50% finished. The new color system is super slick!
6. Team Six: This team recently finished Module Groups. Now they’re working on a Loop Builder! Keep reading to learn more.
7. Team Seven: This team is working on a new Attribute Management system to enhance Divi’s copy/paste/reset systems significantly.

Module Groups

We finished this feature and released it in Divi 5 Public Alpha 13.1. 🎉

Groups are a new container element in Divi’s layout hierarchy that lets you group modules inside columns. Using groups, you can manage and style module compositions.

Relative Colors With HSL Support

We gave a sneak peek of Relative Colors last week, and the feature is already 50% complete.

We’re overhauling Divi’s color field and introducing HSL support with a refined focus on color variables. Using new hue, saturation, and lightness controls, you can easily create relative colors based on your website’s global color palette to design mathematically beautiful color systems.

Attribute Management

This feature is almost finished. We’ll release it tomorrow or early next week if all goes well. 🤩

In Divi 4, you could copy,  paste, and reset styles. In Divi 5, we’re taking attribute management to a whole new level, with the ability to copy, paste, and reset every attribute type (including styles, presets, and content) with much more specificity. This is a significant improvement, especially considering Divi 5’s focus on preset-based design.

It’s the most comprehensive attributed system for any builder.

Loop Builder

It’s another surprise feature! 🤩 We’re building a query loop builder for Divi 5, and development is progressing nicely. We have the basics working, and now it’s just a matter of adding options to let you build custom queries (the UI in the video above is just a starting point).

Divi’s loop builder will be highly flexible, allowing you to loop anything, whether a single module or a layout built with groups, columns, rows, and sections. You can loop elements and fill them with dynamic data from the loop.

Unlike other builders who pigeonhole you into “loop modules” or templates, we will allow you to turn anything into a loop and even add loops inside of loops.

Flexbox Layouts

Development of Flexbox Layouts and Controls is progressing much faster than expected. 🙌 This is a massive update, but I think we’ll have it finished in ~4-6 weeks.

Flexbox layouts will have great synergy with Module Groups and Nested Rows. Divi 5’s layout system is about to reach its final form!

WooCommerce Modules

Progress on WooCommerce modules is picking up speed. We plan to have our first big batch of modules finished within 4 weeks, including all product modules, accounting for most of Divi’s WooCommerce modules. That will set us up nicely for a mid-year Divi 5 Beta launch, with plenty of time to release the official version this year.

• Fixed a script conflict that prevented Divi Theme scripts from loading correctly when the builder was enabled.
• Updated “Default Module Attributes” explanation page to use a new and more general example usage to understand each method better.
• Introduced a new tutorial about modifying default attributes on existing D5 modules.
• Fixed Global Variables not applying to border settings in modules using Field Borders.
• Removed the unnecessary value units from the Gradient Field.
• Conversion outline tests were added to verify conversion for the WooCommerce Product Description module.
• Add the ability to use atRules props in CommonStyle::style function to override the breakpoints.
• Add the ability to use atRules props in the CssStyle::style function to override the breakpoints.
• Updated module settings panels (Content, Design, and Advanced) to use autogenerated settings.
• Fixed the issue of the Image module’s border-radius value not working in the front end for decimal values.
• Fixed the issue of the background mask not showing on the popup menu in the Firefox browser.
• Add support to use atRules at the Element styles level.
• Fixed the issue of the Section module’s divider cut-off problem.
• Fixed an issue where nested rows don’t appear in the regular section.
• Introduce a new explanation page about “Placeholder Content” and a new tutorial page for “Modifying Placeholder Content”.
• Added the WooCommerce Product Title module to the module-library package.
• Update the docs index page nav links to include the 3PS roadmap and fix the styling issues.
• Swapped the placement of add icons in group modules to clarify inside vs. outside module additions.
• Reordered global colors are now correctly reflected in builder elements (Sections, rows, columns, modules).
• Removed unused convertImageToBase64 function from portability utils.
• Fixed not being able to drop a row inside a group.
• Fixed an issue where Group modules saved to the Divi Library or Cloud would not appear when trying to add them from the Library.
• Added new Group element to Divi’s container hierarchy.
• Fixed background styling conflicts between module and option group presets in the settings panel.
• Added a basic setup for the WooCommerce Product Description module behind the wooProductPageModules flag.
• Improved export of images in Global Variables.
• Allow instances of unsupported Divi 4 modules to be duplicated in the builder.
• Added a feature to wrap the selected module in the group.
• Make module options UI horizontally centered on the module level.
• Make the add module button of the hovered module and all of its parent appear regardless of the toggleable action icons’ hover settings.
• Fixed an issue where numeric sizing values defaulted to “auto” instead of a valid unit like “px”, causing incorrect styling.
• Now, only saved global variables are displayed in the dropdown menu.
• Fixed global variables do not work in the image module’s border radius options.
• Fixed the issue of the Global Variable modal field error message showing typo in image, font & string field.
• Fixed WooCommerce module naming convention in D5 to ensure consistent block names and improve module organization.
• Removed module group feature flag.
• Fixed an issue where we can not hover over the group module child when the page settings open.

The Divi 5 Release Schedule

It’s important to note that Divi 5 is production-ready for use on new websites today! Due to the scope of the Divi 5 project, we took a non-traditional approach to its release schedule, releasing it in five phases. The ultimate goal is to make Divi 5 as helpful as possible, as soon as possible, to as many people as possible.

We are in the Alpha phase, akin to “Divi 5 Lite.” It’s missing a few features, but what’s done is ready to be used. It’s far superior to Divi 4 in almost every way. If you prefer Divi 5, you can use it to build new websites.

If an existing website depends on a feature that hasn’t been added to Divi 5, you should continue using Divi 4. WooCommerce modules are the only things missing. Even then, Divi 4’s legacy WooCommerce modules will still work in Divi 5 in backward compatibility mode.

When Will Beta Be Ready?

We aim to enter beta within ~3 months based on our progress. There are three things we want to accomplish before entering the beta phase, and half of our team is focused on these tasks:

1. Improved Backward Compatibility – Divi’s backward compatibility system allows legacy modules like those from the Divi Marketplace to function alongside Divi 5’s new modules. We are actively improving this system with the goal that all existing websites will be able to upgrade to Divi 5 without any changes to their website.
2. Full WooCommerce Module Support – Divi’s WooCommerce modules haven’t yet been converted to the Divi 5 format. You can use them in backward compatibility mode, but you may experience some quirks. We are actively developing WooCommerce modules with each alpha release.
3. Continued Bug Fixes And Improvements – We have a team dedicated to fixing the bugs reported during the alpha phase, ensuring that Divi 5 is stable before the official release. We don’t want the Divi 5 alpha to feel like an alpha, or the beta to feel like a beta.

When Will Divi 5 Be “Officially” Released?

Divi 5 will reach its “final form” before the end of the year, with the ultimate goal of leapfrogging the competition before the year ends. Part of that goal involves aggressively developing new features as part of the feature swap.

But don’t forget! Between now and then, you can use Divi 5 whenever it becomes your preferred experience. Instead of rushing to a final release, we’re maintaining both Divi 4 and Divi 5, giving users a choice.

Once we’re confident in removing that choice, we’ll make it “official,” and everyone will get the Divi 5 upgrade notification.
