The poker run was this weekend in Key West. There was thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts along with their motorcycles parked all along duval street.
The Bikes where kind of interesting, people tended to be middle aged and the crowd was pretty mild. My neighbor was saying that some of the bikes sell for over 100k , not too many outlaw bikers with that kind of money.
Catherine and I walked around got some pictures , not too exciting. There was a handful of topless woman, but other then that nothing too out of the ordinary. Lots of middle aged dudes with high waisted blue jeans and black tee-shirts tucked in.
We also noticed at the hotel near our house had trucks with trailers to carry the bikes on, so some of the “bikers” didn’t even actually ride their bikes here. Honestly the whole thing seemed pretty lame to me, but hey to each their own I guess.
I guess its more of a bike show then a wild party

We got bored of waiting for the hurricane, so we went out and wandered around town for bit.
Catherine took some pictures, there were kite boarders enjoying the 40 knot winds. They wrapped up the southern most point for some reason. Everything is boarded up and closed including the post office.
There is a fair number of locals wandering around looking for something to do. There were news crews also parked around hoping for something bad to happen so they can film it.

Well Hurricane Ike is supposed to pass in the next couple days. Originally it was supposed to do a direct hit on the Keys and pretty much destroy everything, but now its forecast to go into Cuba, and come out a much weaker storm. If it follows, and that is a big IF , the present hurricane track it will be on land for hundreds of miles, before it arcs back up to hit us.
Of course it could suddenly shift north and destroy us all but there is not much to do about that.
In prep of the hurricane we went fishing yesterday, it was really nice out but we did not catch a lot of fish.
The tourist where evacuated from the Keys yesterday, so even if the hurricane doesn’t hit everyone in tourism related businesses is losing a lot of money. I would think this might even suck more for a lot of people in Key West because many are partyers and they live paycheck to paycheck.

Key West city commissioners on Wednesday will discuss Mayor Morgan McPherson’s proposal to help first-time home-buyers come up with a down payment. If approved, loans of up to $25,000 would come from the city’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Money in that fund comes from developers who do not include a prescribed percentage of affordable units in their development plans. One such contribution came from the Galleon Resort as part of a code enforcement settlement that centered on the allowable number of rental units at the waterfront resort and marina.
I know isn’t probably that exciting a subject for anyone who does not live here, but as someone who is renting a place here in Key West, real estate is always on our mind…
Even with Prices dropping in Key West it still seems when you compare salaries to home prices , the prices are still nuts
Now the mayor wants to loan people money for a “down payment”, the whole point of a down payment is to make sure people make their payments. If they are loaned a down payment and things get tough what incentive do they have to stay in the place they bought?
Plus if you have trouble saving 25k, should you really be buying a place in Key West, where some of the cheapest places on the island are almost 200k.

I got two emails that two of themes had been accepted, pretty sweet.
Now if only google would read and follow my robots.txt file and get all the extra demo pages out of the index, so my actual post could get some traffic.
Writing stuff is somehow more interesting when you know someone might actually read it.
