Catherine and I went out snorkeling today, and it was freezing. There have been some cold fronts coming through and the air temperature has been down to 59 degrees which is cold for here.
We actually went looking for lobsters and found a bunch but they were mostly undersized, so we got a couple keepers and came back. The shallow water we were swimming in is much more senstive to cold snaps then the deeper water offshore, and the water today was freezing, but cat got a couple pictures and we got a couple lobster tails so it was worth it.
That’s a pork fish and a lane snapper, I think.
Hi, leaving for Miami in March and wanted to spend a couple days with my 2 teenage kids in the Key’s. Do i have to take a charter to enjoy some good snorkelling or may we do it on our own? We are novices so some advice would be appreciated
Honestly, for the best snorkeling just get on a snorkeling boat in the upper keys. You will go out with 10-20 other people and they will give you all the gear , etc.
Key Largo is going to consistently have the clearest water, although its often clear everywhere on the Atlantic side of all the keys.
You could rent a boat , but really if you just want to snorkel, go to the pennekamp park and take one of the snorkel boats out of there. They will take you to grecian rocks , or christ of the abyss.
Both are great for a first snorkeling trip
